How the math works.
Corn is sold in 80,000-kernel bags— often just called “80k units.” Every major North American supplier prices and packages this way. The formula:
bags = (acres × target population) ÷ 80,000
Target populationis the plant stand you’re aiming for, in plants per acre. Modern organic hybrids run 30,000–36,000 depending on soil, irrigation, and row width. 33k is a safe middle ground for dryland; 35k for irrigated.
We round up to whole bags — seed dealers won’t split a bag. If you’re ordering across multiple fields with the same variety, sum the acres before computing bags so you don’t pay for slack.
Variety prices and maturity numbers are from the source workbook’s 2022 contracted rates and shift year-to-year. Override them with the quote your agronomist gave you.
Take it from a seed order to a season plan.
